Hi,
I'm sorry I have been very busy lately and really haven't participated much in discussions. But now, I'm back. I wrote this piece when I went to the lake here in Laurel, MD where I live. It was just the beginning of fall and it seemed peaceful just sitting down by the lake and taking everything in. (I have sent the poem to the Laurel Leader, the local paper.) Would appreciate your feedback.
A Lovely Day at The Laurel Lake
A yellow butterfly flutters by
And rests its wings on the shrub close by.
Quacking ducks chase after morsels
Hurled by a miscreant behind the shrub that rustles.
An old lady with big goggles
Paddling a boat that wiggles.
Lovers in the distance gazing
At the fountain of golden water crests.
The green belies the season
The leaves are green beyond reason.
The heat of summer has all but ceased
And fall is here for us to see.
The evening air smells of feces
As fleeing dogs are off their leashes.
Two boys in red hasten up the hill
Chasing after fleeing dogs across the hill.
A squirrel scampers behind the boys;
He’s delighted to be part of this canvass.
Ducks waddling in the lake
Quacking on the grass
Eating morsels hurled from a missile
Boys chasing after dogs
Squirrel chasing after boys
An old lady in big goggles
Paddling a boat that wiggles
While lovers holding hands
Contemplate nature’s wonders.
It's a lovely day at the Laurel Lake.
