Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

I was just thinking about this because I definitely am more of a night owl than an early bird and I know many other writers that also like to burn the midnight oil. Some say that's when they do their best work.

What are you and what's your take on that?

Hi Kay....most of my work ideas come to me when it's very late at night or very early in the am...I'm talking about before I have to get ready for work early..there have even been times when I'd be driving and ideas just pop into my head in the form of scenes or phrases, I generally carry a small recorder or note pad with me to jot down the idea so I don't lose it...Another good habit is I keep a journal of notes and a pen by my bed for those "middle of the night  pop-ups".... I believe it's all about relaxing. When I am relaxed and it's quiet it seems the writing just flows!

Mary - it's funny that you say that about being relaxed and quiet.  While I think that is very true - I know that really quiet doesn't work for me.  I do my best thinking anytime when I have music playing in the background.  I know sometimes hearing a sond on the radio brings a thought to my mind or words to a dialouge I have been working through.

I think most writers are creatures of the night.  My problem is I can't stay up late.  So I wake up at 4 in the morning and with a fresh cup of coffee and one small light to shine on my key boards i travel to other planets and new adventures.

keep writing

matt

Matt - You are like me - I am up  several hours before anyone else - and I get more done in those few hours then I do the rest of the morning...
