Mandi, I've been thinking the same thing and I decided to wait until it's closer to Christmas because I bet they will have some special offers or bundles in a month or two hoping to get the festive shoppers interested. It wouldn't surprise me if they bring out a new fancy one, which means whatever one you buy now will inevitably go down in price too in the coming weeks. I might even wait it out until the January sales! :D

 

You can read Kindle books free on your PC too if that's your main purpose for buying it-more than wanting the mobility factor I mean. It's a free download from Amazon.

Mandi - I love my kindle!! In fact I love it so much I almost cried myself to sleep last night after my dogs ate it!!!  Talk about upset!  I immediately ordered another one - I got the Kindle 3G Wireless - there is a bundle special right now for $139. I can't live without my kindle. It goes everywhere with me!  If for some reason I can't have my kindle with me, then I have the kindle app on my Droid Cell phone.  It's harder to read - but it works in a pinch.

Yes - it was awful... I was on the verge of tears... it's just a possession - but still it was like my best friend!

I down loaded kindle for free on my computer.  I fugured on reading some of the old classics.

Yea - I have the kindle app on my computer too - but it's hard to carry around my laptop all the time! lol... The kindle is small and lightweight and easy to slip into a bag.

I can imagine, Stacy! I love my ipod and if anything ever happened to it, I would be devastated. A kindle, with all of your favorite books, would be so much worse. I will have to download the kindle app on my computer for a temporary solution. I love the feel of a book in my hand, but with all the new ebooks, I need a kindle too.

I find them more cumbersome than they have to be and I honestly prefer books. At least the price is down, when I first saw it, I immediately said "That's a racket at its finest!" because I could get a really nice computer for that price, or even a game console which would be a far better investment of entertainment for the dollar.

Matt, they have promotional periods for other books too that you can download free, not just the old stuff.

Just check out the Top 100 Free list every so often, the right hand column. It updates every hour and you'll see new books on it every day or so. That's what I do. I'm always downloading them.

Stacy, did you get the one that supports ads? Just wondering if you did what you thought about it. I didn't feel it was worth the difference in price to put up with them, and then I read they weren't that intrusive. Such a shame you had to buy all over again! Your house insurance might cover that under contents for accidental damage, you know.

Scribbler - Not worth putting a claim into house insurance - they would just raise my rates!  lol.... Honestly I don't kow about the ads.  After it had happened, I just quickly went on Amazon and got a new one. I will have to double check that later.
