Is it worth $250 to have your publisher include your book in their display and adverstising at the mid winter ALA meeting?

I'm guessing it's this meeting in Boston next January? ALA 2010 Midwinter Meeting.
Just checking. :)

I'd be looking at the ROI, Joe. Have they indicated the probable return on investment from participating in that? They should be able to estimate how much that inclusion could boost your sales for example based upon previous years attendance (assuming they've offered this arrangement before to authors) .

I'd ask about that before laying out any cash and also ask exactly what you'd be getting. For example does advertising mean a postage stamp size ad on a flyer with forty others or a poster with your name/book displayed prominently on it? :)

How many other authors will they be promoting on the same terms at the event? Questions like that tell you how much time and effort will be devoted to your book and allow you to make an informed decision. Hope that helps!
Yes, It's the Boston meeting. Thanks for the good advice. I ask the questions you suggest and see what I learn.
You're very welcome Joe! I'm no expert but I am cheap LOL. Whenever I buy anything, I like to know exactly what I'm getting for my money. Forewarned is forearmed. I hope you get answers you like. :)

I'm just catching this thread now and the advice you have already is sound I would say, Joe. How did this all work out for you if I may ask?
Interestingly, the person at AuthorHouse that is my primary contact didn't think it would pay back in any short term. I don't think I will go for the mid winter meeting and reevaluate for the main meeting next summer.

Joe, thanks for that. I appreciate you updating us on what happened. So is the summer event a larger one then? I'm wondering because you referred to that as the main meeting.

I miss stated. I meant to say I will not sign up for the mid winter meeting for now. I have another meeting with a local library person this morning and will ask his opinion.
