..RANDOM QUESTION...Does coffee stop you from having dreams?

Please someone help me answer this question!
I've been drinking coffee since..i think 5 or 6th grade. ( yeah, I know , unhealthy.)
and i rarely have dreams anymore ( i think i get at least 2 dreams Every few months and they are NEVER long ones.... I must admit i miss them. I love waking up from a distant world of my imagination every morning. ( ESPECIALLY the nightmares)
I drink A LOT of coffee. its what wakes me up every morning, as well as keeps me up throughout the day. Im pretty sure, unfortuatly i have diabetes. since my grandmother died of it and my mom has it now. (does diabetes go through your bloodline?)
i've heard lately that Coffee is the cause of my loss of dreams....
Please as you reply to this...Dont tell me that i must quit.
Because im afraid ive tried and it lasted a week or 2...i guess Sadly, im hooked to the stuff..

I've never had Coffee nor do I ever plan to have Coffee so I wouldn't know. Maybe you are dreaming you just can't remember them; that happens to me a lot.
I don't think so.
And you always dream!
We always dream.
Every single time we go to sleep.
The fact that we can or can not remember them relies on which of the 5 stages they occur.
Each stage is given in time too. For example we enter stage 2 after 30 minutes of being asleep (im not sure about the time tough.) So, if you dont get to stage 5, you will probably not remember your dream. I know coffee makes you less likely to go to sleep. So, do you frequently wake up in the middle of the night? Are you sleeping the time you should?
All those factors are involve when it comes to the time you sleep. If you can not fall asleep for 5-6 straight hours, you will probably not remember your dream.
I drink coffee all the time and dream all the time so I would say no it doesn't affect that. Diabetes can be hereditary or at least it's common to run in families. There are different types though.
Rowen's correct. We always dream. What we don't always do is remember our dreams. That's why you should keep a notepad beside the bed. Then if you awaken in the middle of one, you can scribble down what it was about. Dreams that are well remembered on awakening usually fade in about an hour tops.

I go through periods where I can't remember my dreams for a few months and then next thing I can remember them every morning. You need to be getting enough sleep to get to that REM stage where dreams occur and every time you awaken, the cycle reverts to the start. That's why you can spend ten hours in bed and still feel rotten if you waken off and off throughout that. You're never getting to the most restful, deep stage of sleep where the most vivid dreams occur.

Coffee won't make you lose your dreams but the caffeine could keep you awake more. Switch to drinking a decaffeinated brand after 5pm for a week and see if that makes a difference. Also get to bed earlier to allow yourself more time to reach those deep sleep periods in the cycles. Sweet dreams. :)

Well, did you know that you actually have a dream every night? It's just a matter of whether you remember it or not. Maybe coffee causes loss of certain memories. I don't know. Have you had trouble remembering certain details lately? And I think diabetes does run in the family, but I'm no docter. I'm not going to tell you to quit, because that would be rude of me. I have a problem myself, but It's with tea. I'm hooked, too. Whenever I'm home sick (and I'm home sick writing this right now) I make a pitcher of tea for my family. I was really sick yesterday, and the worst part was, my parents took my to my favorite restaurant ever that I've been begging for for over two months, and I felt like I was about to die. My dad thought it would make me feel better, and it did feel good to eat something (after only have a fourth of a crunch bar, believe it or not, I wasn't hungry) I would have been mad if I had the energy. Anyway, my point, I couldn't tell you to stop doing something if I'm doing almost the exact same thing. Maybe you could cut back just a little and have more dreams. I'm trying to do the same thing. I hope I helped!
Actually Rowen, one time when I was little, I had to sleep in my parents bed one night because right after I fell asleep and woke up strait away remembering the one thing I saw. Every time I fell asleep, I saw this horrible vision in my mind. Then two seconds later, I woke up screaming, remembering the horrible vision.

But, yours was a vision. Not a complete dream.
And i agree with your above post.
Nobody can tell someone else to quit something. I'm sure we all have our own little addictions.
And on a side note: Yes! Diabetes runs in the family!

I read that drinkin coffee more then once doesnt really keep you up. It just gives you a slight rush like sugar.
And I know its wrong to tell someone to stop some thing but Im tellin you this from experience in my family life you gotta drink less coffee. My grandpa died from drinkin too much coffee it made his blood thick and sluggish where it just stop flowing. So um keep it in mind...but dont take it wrong I drink coffee too! But I dont drink more then one because after my second cup I can't eat anymore. Food doesn't appeal to me after my 2nd cup. I didnt realize until 4 days later when my was noticing I wasnt eating and asked me if something was wrong lol
Oh! I'm so sorry Viviana. I was devastated when my grandmother died, so I know how you feel. I'm sorry.

I used to drink it almost every morning when I was little because my mother made coffee for my dad. I don't remember why I stopped drinking it because I liked it, but I do remember that I had to put ice in it because it was way to hot! Lol!
