I hate to see Borders go under. If you have any kind of previous arrangement with them, such as a book signing event, you may need information such as this.

1. If you have a scheduled book signing event at a Borders store, it may or may not happen. Borders plans to close 200 stores over the next several weeks. They have not yet indicated which stores will close. You'll just need to wait and see if the store hosting your event is affected.

Will the Borders closure affect you at all?

Not me, since I live in the middle of nowhere and there's not a book store for miles and the library is run by a touchy conservative who fell out of the Doctor's Tardis. Really does tick me off though, how can one of the more popular ones just go under like that? It gets mentioned in popular culture for crying out loud! (okay, one episode of The Boondocks but still!)

Although I don't have a branch nearby I'm still very sad to see this happen. I hope something miraculous happens to save them but I doubt it. And all those poor staff in 200 stores losing their jobs! It's a real shame.

I think Amazon's domination of the ebook reader market with the Kindle has plenty to do with their demise. Kindle readers buy their books from Amazon.com, not Borders, so Amazon gets all those additional sales too. If you asked people to name the Borders ebook reader I think the majority either wouldn't know they even had one or be unable to do so. (It's called the Kobo.)

That's likely it, with the advent of Steam and the Kindle, digital distribution has quickly become King for its low cost and ease. I mean, you don't have to run a brickbeast, people don't have to leave their homes, no disks to lose, unlimited stock, it's amazing.
