What is one thing you do to get rid of writters' block?

I personally go through everything in my house, surf the internet and go outside to find anything that might shed light on my dark spot.  I've been getting writers' block lately, but none of this is working for me, so I was wondering what do you do?

Wow, I wish that's how my mind worked, though I finally did get over my writers' block when I was thinking of ideas at school.

I am or must be the luckiest writer because in my writing experience dating back at least 30 years I have never had to endure writer's block....the fact is I fight off having more ideas than I can handle and have a boot box full of scraps of paper to preserve every idea I had the opportunity to write down. I am blessed...
I've had the same problems. I asked the people on here about it and some suggested i get out and just forget whatever it was i was writing about. I went camping and meditated. Then i did random activities to avoid writing. For two weeks, then i was ready to start writing. And i was getting writer's block again. And sadly.... very very sadly i took my laptop for granted and was carless with it and it broke. I have no way to write and i am bursting with ideas and a longing to write. I've had a long enough break! But its great you are getting over it!
Usually when I do get an extra idea, I write it down in a notebook, or if a scene pops into my mind I write it down as well until I can fit it into my story or in your case since your laptop broke, I would right down random parts of the story till you can get it fixed and then fill in those empty spots?  That's what I did when my lap top broke.

I find fresh air and a change of scenery work best, Laura. If the words aren't coming within ten minutes of me sitting down at the keyboard, not even a sentence or two that flows together well, I admit defeat because I know they ain't going to come. Outside I go for a little while.

If you don't feel like going outside, try some writing prompts and write on a totally unrelated subject to what you're working on. A shift in gears can be all the kick in the pants I need. There are many writing prompt generators out there--just Google it--such as this one.

Aww, sorry to hear that Brooklynn! Since you can still get online, why not set up something like Backpack? You can get a free account where you can keep notes on it. It can be accessed from any computer too since it's online. You can always transfer them to your laptop once you get it fixed and it's possible to email any notes you create to yourself if you want. I use it and have never had to upgrade to a paid plan. The free one is plenty big enough. You can register here.

Write whatever comes to mind. Or take some time off. I write several hours a day, every day and thank God writer's block has only come to me a few times. But if I remember correctly, I let it go and tried to do other things. But I did think about it a lot. It will pass and you'll be back to not having a life other than writing, which for a writer is the best life of all...
I go to the mail box and pull out the gas bill, the electric bill, the cable bill - you get the idea.  It inspires me to make money so I can have light, heat & the internet!
I can't think of anything more motivational than that either, Mary! Well said. :)
