I"m wondering who likes what because I never seem to meet anyone that says anything other than The Hobbit! :) Do you have a different favorite? Perhaps you don't like them at all.

Reading them all in order merges them into one book, I read them many years before it was even considered being made into a movie....how many years I will keep to myself for age reasons. The set contained The Hobbit, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.

I personally liked The Fellowship of the Ring.
My husband is a huge fan of The Hobbit. He has a gorgeous boxed edition of it and a plain paperback for everyday reading. I can remember my older sister reading it thirty years ago. I've tried and couldn't get into it. When the movies came out on DVD I thought "oh no!" and that my TV wouldn't be mine anymore. :) Now I enjoy them as much as he does.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (which includes The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.)

I went back and read The Hobbit afterwards - the story interests me because I read the trilogy first - but to me, on its own, does not have the same drawing power as The Fellowship Of The Ring.

Like Sandra, I read the stories many moons ago - and for many years, I reread the stories annually.
