That just about sums it up for me too. Its all about the adventure. That's why I left University and went to sea all those years ago. My series title is the Everlasting and Fantastical Adventures. The adventures are such fun to write and when I see my children's faces as the story unfolds, I can see they are caught up in the imaginary adventures. That is a priceless feeling and one I want to share with others.
I second that! Although I am more of a supernatural enthusiast than Sci-Fi, I was raised on Star Wars and Star Trek. Also for me, writing is a way to clear my head of all those stories and characters that keep popping up in there. It took me ten years to actually start writing, and I really should have done it sooner, maybe I'd have had less headaches! Anyway, another reason I write is because it is my legacy to the world. No one can take that book or story away from me, it is mine and I will share it with my children one day. It's an ego thing!
That would be my reason as well--the adventure. I write science fiction in particular, and it's the only way available to me to explore other worlds and interact with the creatures living there.

I am working on a novel that I describe as a Catholic Fantasy. It will have much of what the Catholic church teaches about the faith and will be enhanced with elements that make it larger than life. I have been a fantasy fan for 40 years ever since I read Lord of the Rings.

Wow.. I read this and then I thought to myself.. why do I write?  I think my answer to this is because others told me I should.  I never wanted to write a book before. While I was driving around at work one night an idea came to mind about the creatures in the night. I spent the night driving and talking to myself. The next day I sat down and started writing. It felt soooo good.

While I was writing it I had some people reading it while I went along - they loved it.  Before I even had that one done - I had the plot for the second book in my mind and the writing came so quick and easy. I found myself craving the time I could sit and live in another place. It has become my sanctuary from real life and I thrive on it now.

Stacy you are addicted to writing! Good for you.
I beleive you found your artist's voice through writing.  I believe in my small little mind that all everybody is doing is trying to communicate their ideas to each other
Luckly for us it is a peaceful way.

 Keep writing Matt

Matt - Thank you!  Oh - I have no plans to stop writing anytime soon. IN fact my a couple weeks ago my husband walked into the office to ask what I was doing and I said I had just started another book. He laughed and said he was just going to leave now because I was so much more productive when he wasn't at home.  lol...

My second book - Blue Blood for Life is at the publishers now. I have the plotline for book 3 of the series in my mind. I am currently working on another book called "Whether I'll Live or Die" which centers around Domestic Violence and a 4th book partial written - but hit a roadblock - and I put it aside until I get the other one moving.

I'm addicted all right!

I write because I love the thought of my work being out there for others to enjoy. I write in a variety of genres, which I have been told is rather strange for an author to do. I write horror, young adult, sci-fi, mystery/detective, romance, poetry and that is just so far in my writing 'career'. I have been looking for an offline publisher but so far have managed to publish via the online venue at Bookbooters.com before they went out of business and my books are currently available at Lulu.com. I have always loved to read so writing seemed like the next logical step. :)

I write for adventure also , but for me it is the excitement of rediscovering how deep my imagination can go and share it through writting to take it to new depths.

I was just thinking that.  I started writing another blog in  a notebook this morning.  I started writing the 3rd book in a sequel and its so exciting writing it.  I mapped out 12 chapters with a one page summery.  After writing the first chapter i realize the planned 2nd chapter didn't work and the new 2nd chapter has the book heading in a new direction kinda.

Because I get bored from time to time. My best works are shown off with the tagline "boredom struck".

So when your mind goes on vacation it likes to write, thats cool
