has anybody heard of or had any experience with a website called,www.firstwriters.com?  they ask you for a subscription and then give you access to publishers and agency's, as S.A.E are not an option for me, this seems like a good way for me to submit my manuscript for consideration, any feed back would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Anna, I don't know anything about them. I just tried that URL and it's only displaying a standard holding page. I hope you didn't give them money because I can only assume from that they have taken the site down and if they have, there would be no way to contact them.

There's a valuable lesson here. Be cautious about subscribing to such lists for places you've never heard of and of where you're spending money. Stick with sites that have been online a long time to be on the safe side or do as you did and ask about them.

There's much that can be found free online or that a trip to your local library would cover. You would be better looking into places likeagentquery to source an agent or checking out a well known and respected publication like Writer's Market (either via the library or buying it) that lists publishers and the genres they are interested in.

(You'll also be able to buy used versions from previous years there too and could probably get a bargain on a new copy of the 2011 one when the new one is out in a few weeks. )

You may prefer a copy of the Novel and Short Story Writers Market instead. It's out on the same date. (The other one covers about every market there is out there.)

You can also check out Duotrope which publishes calls for submissions for fiction and poetry. It too has a searchable free database just like agentquery.

Ok. - Just joined this site today - and found you all! Hello.  Since I'm in this group - you could say I write fiction. My first book published is a paranormal fiction book. The second one in the series is being published in Sept.  I have another book that is fiction-drama that will be coming out in January (I hope). 

 

I am a police officer full time - so I weave my job and life experiences into my books.
