Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
Hi everyone, my name is Cindy Story new author.
Does anyone have any advise about how you go about collecting a payment at your own book signing that you have set up. Don't want to except personal checks- plus what good hand outs that work for you?

Thank you Bob for all the wonderful advise- I will accept checks-the only problem with the credit card is no hook-up for the terminal!

Cindy, if you don't have a way of allowing the buyer to use a credit card, cash is your only alternative. I personally will accept personal checks. I've yet to be burned.
In terms of promo materials, I use posters, press releases, business cards, and a custom book flyer the prospective buyer can read over and take with them.
Hope this helps
Bob
Ok Bob, thank you for the heads up on the Square I will look into that
If you're selling at a store, you should have the checks cleared through their system. Not sure how that works. If you doing this like on your front porch or somewhere far from such a system, sell for cash or money order only. Or check into how to do the credit card thing. There is a way, but I don't know how to do that either. Sorry. There's always the consideration that even if the check bounces, you're not going to go broke from this one lost sale and that's one more book out there.
Thank you Anna, no I'm doing it at a dance recital- it will be out by the flower station. I did look into "The Square" I downloaded the ap to my smart phone- and went on line to see who sold "The Square". Target, Best Buy, for $10.00 I was told that when you download they "Apple" or whom ever will send a coupon. However, need to get approved for a dollar amount I'm told, well up to a certain amount
Thank you, and Bob I hope this helps others
Hope it works out. Have fun
