Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
People when I first started out trying to find out how to publish my first book, I thought self publishing meant . . . SELF publishing! I paid for a publishing company, but what I want to do is Publish MY own work. All tips are welcome! I'm new @ SELF PUBLISHING! ($mile)

You should look into CreateSpace or Lulu. To get your best work out there, you still have to put out some money. Cover art - good cover art, will cost you in the vicinity of $100 unless you're very lucky, or very good at that sort of thing yourself (I'm not). There's also the cost of the ISBN number and bar code. I believe the cheapest place I've found is around $50. And let's not forget the most important part of publishing - editing. There are tons of freelance editors out there and a full range of rates. Regardless of these costs, it's still lots cheaper than any subsidy publishing house and your control is no better but certainly no worse. It's been a while since I checked but CreateSpace provides the number and bar code free. You can also buy a cover through them, but it will cost. Editing is up to you, and I STRONGLY recommend you go that route no matter the company you publish through. I've read quite a few book very much in need of a tuneup in the storytelling department.
Lots of avenues actually. Start with a cover, my book on how to design your own ebook cover is free, starting in 25 minutes until end of Monday at Amazon. http://amzn.to/OUxQUJ
My company only charges $89 for ebook covers and $149 for print on demand covers.
Then there are all sorts of ebook publishers that do not cost as much to get your book out there and once you have made a few bucks there, then you can go the CreateSpace route.
I can either help you publish, or do it for you. Contact me at ebooks@motherspider.com
I'll check out the sites. I do my own book designs. I rather have it that way. Check out my first book cover. You can google me: Cordelia Alexander Love Stories The Relationships Of Four Women to see my first book cover. If you have a facebook account you can see the steps it took for me to get to the finish product.

I recommend you typing your manuscript with a pdf or doc type file first. Majority of the websites like Amazon
require doc or pdf type files. That way you want have any trouble getting your manuscript to go through okay.
After you have typed your manuscript and proof-read it from top to bottom and everything looks and sounds
fine to you, let someone else proofread it for you also to make sure the kinks are out of it. (smile). You know
sometimes we can leave something in that shouldn't be included. I know I have done it before and have had to
go and edit it. So that is only human. Everyone makes mistakes, this is a learning process. The more you work at it, the better you become. It is good to make mistakes because that is the only way you will learn.
After you have your manuscript perfected the way you want it to be, then if you want to publish on Amazon
kindle Direct Publishing website, go there and it will give you full details (step by step) what to do in chronologically order. It is simple and easy to follow. You upload your manuscript, the book cover,
fill in all your author info, the book info, sales price, and then you are ready, it should go live within 24 hrs..
There is nothing complicated about it at all, then you are the one who published your ebook, I hope this
info helps you out. Good luck and much success in selling your books.
