Thank you for the welcome Scribbler. I am excited about Authors.com and looking forward to learning new things. I am not really an agent, but rather a sort of administrative assistant doing all the little self-publishing tasks that bog down a writer and take him/her away from writing. I do deal with different genres. Science fiction is my late night escape.
Great to have you here Susan and a warm welcome to Authors.com. :) It’s a very friendly and sharing community.
I'm curious about your job. It sounds very varied and I bet busy! What do you find most authors want to delegate to you first and is that a good choice?
Thanks for replying, Susan. If you're not an angel like Kay said you must have the patience of a saint. Writers can be very temperamental in my experience. I don't think I'd like to work with me even! :) Hope you come around often.
I've spent most of my working life interacting with customers and so I have developed a pretty thick skin. I've found that when people step over that line it works best to calmly point out that you are there to help them, but you need their help to be able to do that. That usually turns them around and if it doesn't you can always end the relationship as tactfully as possible.
The first thing authors, especially new authors, want to know about is what is involved in getting the book published and how the timing works. The individual tasks such as getting the ISBN and LCCN, getting testimonials and early reviews or permissions are not difficult, but they are tedious and you must keep detailed records so those are the kinds of things they most often delegate.
Oh and by the way, I'm not an angel. Just ask my husband.
Congrats for your feature on Authors.com! I know as an author myself it feels good to receive recognition for doing what is so special to us.
Keep on writing!
Hi susan, I am a potentual writer whom have just completed a slim novel. I can always use any type of additional advice. If you know that you can give me any tips I'd be glad for such. And I hope to hear from you soon.

May I ask, is your work all about science fiction too or do you deal with different genres?
