Worth

She wanted to write the words that might kill her.

Kill is a little drastic, but partially true. The urgency is conveyed. Maybe it isn't all that drastic.

She stowed the notebook and the marker, in a superficial show of secrecy. They knew she had these things. Probably read every word she wrote.

They were coming. Coming for what, she didn't know. She never knew. As far as she could tell she had been in this room for just over two months and no… Continue

Compassion and Love Hurts (A Redcliffe Novel)

A fellow author has decided to focus on the theme of compassion in his novels, and also on his blog http://www.tommach.com.  This got me thinking, how does Love Hurts deal with this issue? Do my characters feel compassion for each other, do they have strong decisive morals, or are they completely indifferent?

My heroine Jessica Stone believes herself to be an independent and compassionate woman. She does not show…

The hills are alive...

Well everyone, it's that time of year again.  The clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and the weather has turned cooler...

It's fair to say that usually I'm heading back to the UK around now.  But this year (apart from a couple of weeks over Christmas) I've decided to stay on here in Kalymnos.  Not least because I have work to do and there are too many uneccessary interruptions back home - what with the various shift patterns to fit around, constantly missing car keys…

"I Used to be Mean"

My latest children's book "I Used to be Mean" is being shipped to me for final editing and should be available on Amazon by Thanksgiving.  I really believe this is my best work so far, and the personal nature of this book means a lot to me.  The book centers on a former bully who is now forced to look at his own past behavior through the eyes of his son who is now being bullied.  I am hoping that if we can get young kids to understand how wrong this is then perhaps we can put an end to the…

Profit vs Popularity vs Promotion

Recently a discussion came about concerning what was most important to authors. Is it creating a highly profitable sales base? Or is it to become so well known you become a daily household name? Or is it simply to see your works so well promoted in a cost efficient manner that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy your work?  For me personally its become more of a promotional thing. All my books are currently sold through my website at basically the cost of printing, shipping to me, and…
