Got up this morning and did the first thing I’ve done every day since the computer age began. I checked my email. Not much there from family or friends that needed a reply.…

The Three Worlds of the Witches

Fifth wasn’t aware she was drifting off to sleep but soon she was asleep and began to dream. She was a hawk, high in the air circling the village, lazy in its attempt to find prey. A rabbit ran across her path and she swooped down on it and just as she was about to grab it in her talons it turned to look up at her.

‘Oh Dee, Dee, I knew you’d come.’ And Fifth…

Read some 'Tales from the Sand Hills'

Tales From The Sand Hills an Australian Outback Adventure.

‘Tales from the Sand Hills’ is set in the Australian outback during the 50’s and 60’s. The times were pretty hard in post-war, post-depression Australia and to survive out there in the Australian outback you had to be a bit tough. And that country out there was particularly tough.

It was a…

Acceptance and Fear

So another week has passed. The upheaval from last continues with new frustrations this week.

Over a rainy weekend I secured a temporary place to live and this week, have started packing. Today I filled an entire dumpster with stuff I've accumulated over twenty years but haven't seen in years or haven't used. Some stuff I thought were important had lost their…

Novel Writing...Choosing a Point of View!

How am I going to tell my story? Which Point of View?

      Choices? Choices? Choices?

When I sit in front of my computer and start to pound the letters on the keyboard, I must decide on the point of view to tell the story! I swallow hard and try to figure out a “voice” in which to write my novel…so many choices!

      What is the definition of…

Just here, writing.

I don't see myself as a blogger, but I do like to tell what I'm currently working on, or things that interest me in the world of fantasy writing.  I have two self publish books under the title The Darkstone Chronicles, and I am working on my third novel (not related to the first two).  I have a blog site at www.darkstone8.wordpress.com and

I have a couple pages on facebook.  …

Searching for quotes

I am currently looking for a website that has some good quotes for motivational and inspirational quotes for women.  I am getting ready to write a new book.

Any information would be great.

Change

good-choice-bad-choice-sign This was not going to be the topic of this week's post. I was going to discuss last weekend's writers' retreat I attended where I met some great people, made some new friends, and had a lot of fun, especially Sunday morning trying to avoid the rain.

However, what I learned Sunday afternoon on the drive home turned my world upside down. From Sunday through Thursday (yesterday) my…

Please help my cluelessness- ISBN numbers

Hello all,

Excuse my cluelessness but I'm self publishing my book in August through Blurb first and then going from there, but my formatter/editor and general handler of things I don't understand was talking to me about ISBN numbers... Now I understand that I need to pay around £126 for one!? I'm a student and recently lost my job and haven't found another one, so I can't exactly afford it right now. We have a plan but can somebody out there please explain the ISBN thing to me because…

This Writing Business -- an unending Odyssey?

Until I stumbled unto this community, I intermittently wondered if indeed this writing business is not just an unending pointless Odyssey. Discovering a community like this assures me not only that there are so many others out there able and willing to sustain the arduous, shifting and often thankless business of writing but also that there may be something, afterall, no matter how indefinable or elusive, that compels and drives dreamers like me to stubbornly get on with it.

If you…

Bad Words

Grammar-Police In my almost forty-seven years I've matured in the ways of language. Somewhat. To hear me speak, maybe your thoughts would differ. Let's agree I've tried to think about language and the words, or rather, their correct usage, before I speak. Do I still say 'gonna' and 'sorta'? Sure, and I also tend to speak faster than some people, namely my students, can comprehend. But I'm working on it and I think…

YOU'VE CHANGED—HAS YOUR WEBSITE?

Websites are now as important for establishing identity as a birth certificate or a driver's license. Yet, I've noticed that once an author puts one up, the site is often forgotten and neglected.

I research authors when they send me query letters in my capacity as acquisitions editor for Oak Tree Press. I like to know who I'm dealing with and, short of doing a background check, websites are all I have to give me an inkling of their accomplishments up to this stage in their…

Attitude

Attitude This is the first in a series of life skill blogs. These will tie in the aspects I teach in my taekwondo classes. Sometimes there will be a connection to writing, sometimes not. I think it will be up to the individual to relate these to his/her  specific situation, whether writing or other activity. I hope you will enjoy these and, as always, I invite comments.

What can be said about…

Don't make blatantly self-serving blog posts or status updates please, people!

We're a fantastic community. Sometimes we need to and do address issues that are brought to our attention to keep it that way.

Please be aware that constantly linking to your own work or copy/pasting it here is irritating to many other members. To those who do: you're not making yourself look good in the eyes of the community. No one likes a taker who doesn't give back to Authors.com and only makes self-serving posts. And it REALLY hurts us on Google when it's duplicate content. Read…

Tales from the Sand Hills

Around the campfire burning low, yet still gives off a warming       glow

Down on the ever warming ground, the weary men sat all around

They passed some time at idle play, that holds the loneliness at bay

And they tell tales of days gone by, while stars looked on in blackened sky

As Bushmen dream in swags remote, the dingoes howl their eerie note

And God alone stands watch at night, beside that camp fire burning…
