Just checking in with my first entry - it's good to know that there's a support system out here for people working in what is often a pretty lonely environment. There are two really brilliant moments in writing - the day the book is commissioned or accepted and the day it comes out, most of the rest is pretty hard going. There is nothing, however, quite like the feeling of buzz (and pressure) as you are involved in the…

I think what many authors tend to either forget or not realize in the first place is that publishing is a business. With any business, there are rules, regulations, and requirements for those who want to be employed. Writers sometimes don’t do their homework. I admit, I didn’t, but in time I learned the rules, and am still learning.
When applying for a job, there are…

« De Profundis » is the fifth and final movement of « Lifeforce. » I discovered the title when time came to name the various sections of « Between Worlds. » I opened my encyclopedic dictionary and started looking for words beginning with « d » in…

My second book, Rosemary Beach, is really two stories. First of all, a jilted and angry x lover is mentally unstable to begin but conditions worsen as she learns of the relationship between Malcolm and Rosemary. Not being capable of compassion or understanding, her goal in life becomes to humiliate and torture her nemesis. In the meantime, the love story between Malcolm and Rosemary deepens and becomes the love everyone is searching to find. The tales of sailing and yachting plus the…

I’m a firm believer that your characters are shadows of who you are or who you wish to become.
Writing this tetralogy, there have been countless times when I’ve recognised aspects of myself in each one of my characters.…

(« A free body diagram of a mass on an inclined plane » by Mets501)
How long have I hankered
For the right way to go
How far have I wandered
To know what I now know
Laying under the moon
Rising up with the crow
And the wail of the…

They fall on us just like rain.
Everyone has some sorrows,
They come to us just like a bunch of arrows.

You have written your book. Now what? If you decide on self publishing you do have options.
Option 1:You can send the publisher your book as a word document. The publisher can format and layout your work and then make print copies.
Option 2: This option is not recommended for the novice author/writer. You can decide to do your own editing, formatting and page layout and send to your publisher your entire book files in PDF format. The PDF file/s must be an exact trim size of…

I'm a baby boomer and I like the ole fashion way of dating. How about you and could you share with me some of the dates that you found interesting? Thank ya kindly! (Words from the mouth of John Whitterspoon)

Rick Robinson, Sunny Frazier, and Sparkle Abbey.
Three authors (four actually since SA is actually two collaborators) to whom I must give credit for making me think about this week’s blog. Let me explain.
Many moons ago, I met Sunny Frazier, Oak Tree Press’ acquisition editor, at the Killer Nashville conference. She was personable, open, friendly and we…

Firstly, you’re opening yourself and the company you work for to get a nasty lawsuit!
Secondly, no one is worth losing the respect of your team.
I’ve seen managers play favorites time and again, and always for the wrong reasons. I remember a person who was consistently number 1 in sales. But that was the only thing he was good at. The person treated everyone around him poorly. He never said hi to anyone, or thanked them when they helped him with his sales (and he got plenty of…

Hey all,
I am hoping someone can help me with this. It is probably easy to do but does anyone know how to delete the extra blank pages out of your manuscript. I finished all the editing and have a few pages after i decided not to add any illustrations.
