Around the Globe with WILLIAM STEINFELDT & MANDY CRANE

This has been a glorious week and this morning I don’t even need the transporter. It’s extra special because I’m honored to be able to interview an extra author this week. A father/daughter team. We’re along a stretch of the Iowa River and our fishing lines are waiting for the big catfish. Can there be any better place to relax on a Friday morning? I think…

Why Your Blog Post's Headline Can't Be Ignored

I realized something as I was going through my RSS subscriptions and Twitter time lines, I started to look at how I was selecting what to read. I rely heavily on RSS and Twitter for my daily consumption of news and blog updates, I have hundreds of subscriptions and follows. No one can possibly read everything that comes up and I noticed I was focusing on the headlines of the articles. If it was not catching me I would move on to the next one leaving it behind. That article could have had…

Need some help again...

Hi all! I have a huge favour to ask of any of you if you have some spare time on your hands.

I have written a book, and I'm in the final stages of editing for grammar mistakes etc. I realised that I want to carry on the series (the second book is in progress at the moment), and as Dead Night is set in the year 1899, I think going too far into the 1900's will kill the atmosphere. So basically, I need an opinion; it is possible for me to drag the entire timeline back ten or twenty years…

Hi, I'm new to Authors.com, and would like to invite all of you to read my book The Smack, just published on Amazon Kindle.   It's a detective thriller, the first in a planned series about a veteran detective named Frank Blaylock, who is tracking down a sadistic killer whose goal is to rid the city of those he considers "undesirables."   I hope you will give it a try.

True Story: Cincinnati Strangler terrorized city

In 1965-1966, my main interests were boys, learning how to drive so I could get my driver’s license and school, pretty much in that order. So I paid little attention to the news, never realizing how what was going on then (in my city) would mirror the novel I would write many years later.…

Julius Thompson Enrolled in the Digital Revolution!!!!!

When you read a novel, it is not only for entertainment, but to learn something about life.

Oh, how we human being must meet and overcome new challenges.

I love the character of Jane Marple from the Agatha Christie Mystery series.

Miss Marple said in the book Of Bertram’s Hotel, when another character pined…

12 Major Comma Uses Explained

Commas are confusing because they are used in many ways. However, the basic principle to using commas is simple: Use commas to separate clauses and phrases within sentences that have their own meaning.

The “rules” for commas below are broadly, but not universally, accepted. However, a careful writer considers two central issues:

  • Reader understanding and
  • Consistency.…

Manifestos To Help You Stay Motivated and Focused

With the start of any journey you need to know which direction you are going. But, as with most journeys, there are obstacles, challenges, and distractions along the way and everyone needs a little motivation to stay the course. It's easy to jump off and revert back to the simple ways. Who said life was easy? Aside from writing everyday, regardless what your own journey is, everyone I think should read every day as well.

What is Geek To Author?

Geek to Author is exactly what it means, a career Geek (me) taking a journey to being an Author, a writer, a creator of something meaningful that will last. There are many sites out there on the Internet on how to take charge, make yourself marketable, how to generate traffic to your blog(s), but rarely do you find anyone that details these words of wisdom in actual practice outside those advise sites.

Geek to Author is going to do that. Document what I do, what I…

How I reached the writing of my fifth novel: Chasing The Wind

I'm writing my fifth novel: Chasing The Wind.

When I look at the word “Fifth”, it scares me. It seems like just yesterday I was working on my first novel, A Brownstone in Brooklyn. With the publication of  Brownstone, I thought my novel writing days were over.

Now, four books later and I’m going strong in crafting…

Aroundthe Globe with KATHLEEN KASKA

So on this rainy May day, I hop in the transporter to pick up this week’s featured author. When she tells me where she’d like to go for the interview, I politely tell her, “Uh, it’s not that type of transporter. ” Then she slips…

NINE

(Letter 9)   Lysa Linnet

Amidst all ends of the world, i am lonely,so lonely I feel,

I feel dead though alive, world of the unknown now only known to me.

Sometimes, I even wonder and ask myself if im one of them,

Though im not, I feel im.  I am very stuck among the nine.

In a house…

been away for awhile....fIshing for ideas...litreally

Hey all,

its been a small while since coming in here. I took a small break from writing to sort of clear my head. I wanted to make sure that the direction of my story was still going the way I wanted it to go and not going off course. So i have been going fishing with my family. Caught a couple catfish a 2 and half pounder and a 5 to 6 pounder. not to bad if I do say so. Now that I have a clear head I went back and looked and reread the last couple chapters and I like the way my story…

Where to start?

First off let me start off by saying I have never written or published a book before.

For the past few months I have had a idea keep popping up in my head and I think there is a reason this idea has not dissipated. I'm supposed to publish a children's book. Me, just Mary is supposed to publish a children’s book.

The main problem is that I have NO idea where/how to start when it comes to publishing.

I have the text in my head and an illustrator considering the project,…

Time has a funny way of changing things

A Blur resembling a tiny strawberry blonde girl in pink pajamas ran and jumped into the bed as fast as she could. “Beat you” she boasted as Vivian moved closer towards the bed. Vivian pulled the covers up over her and kissed her softly on the forehead “Goodnight sweetheart”.  Vivian didn’t think it would go as smoothly as it did. Up until today they had a routine; race to bed, tuck in the covers, ask for a story, check for monsters under the bed, close the closet door, and then…

2nd Book in Progress

I'm impressed by folks doing trilogies, etc. Makes perfect sense...guaranteed audience. If readers like #1, they're bound to check out #2...and already know the cast of characters.  I'm working on my 2nd book, but it's quite unlike the first (MEDICINE ROCK, A Journey of Vision and Healing, IUniverse, Kindle, etc). The first is based on my adventures in 1971, so I knew the cast, plot, timeline, etc. This new book is based in a mountain town in Montana, and the characters are creating…
