Gay Characters and Task Force: Gaea

When I started writing this novel years ago, I had an internal conversation about whether or not I was ready to commit to having gay characters play a prominent role. It wasn't because I was ashamed of being gay myself, but rather more of a concern that my book wouldn't be well received because of the content. After all, would an 18 year old straight guy want to read a novel if the main character were gay? Or, if gay characters showed up throughout? It was…

Why writing stinks

I hate writing.

This confession will be astonishing to most people, as the sole overriding desire of my entire life, the one constant from about the time I was ten years old until today, is a burning desire to be a writer. This, of course, requires me to write. But as anybody who has ever tried to do it will tell you, writing isn't easy . Many people (who have never written a complete paragraph and think it's perfectly acceptable to use "U" when you mean "YOU")…

Romance in Fantasy

Recently, I’ve been pondering something that a friend mentioned to me while reading Task Force: Gaea: why is there no romance in the novel? A worthy question, to be sure, and it started me thinking about the nature of “romance” in literature. Now, I’m not sure why she commented about it—unless she truly wished to see characters engage in a romantic relationship. Within this story (about the birth of the…

Interview with With Jeremy Kline (Me!)

FIVE MINUTES WITH

Author Jeremy Kline

By Justin Paprocki

jpaprocki@islandpacket.com

Vampires get too much attention these days. Bluffton writer Jeremy Kline thinks it’s time for a shapeshifter to take center stage.

“Lazarus Cane” is Kline’s first novel, published by California-based Damnation Books. It follows a shapeshifter who, in a Dexter-like role reversal, protects the Lowcountry from serial killers.

Kline discusses why there’s more to the…

I'm ready to post my weekly blog when suddenly James Baroni, author of The Legend of Rachel Petersen (see Brayton's Book Buzz from this previous Monday) storms into my apartment, grabs me by the collar and throws me into the transporter. writing the next book

Whenever I talk about my book I am asked :"And what happened after that?" So much happened after that, that I find it difficult to write in a consequential way, rather there are anecdotes, visual moments, odd memories. SO, I just jot them down and hope that eventually they will produce the answer to the question, albeit in in a logical way - so the book may be read: a bit here, a bit there, and put it together in your own way. Or am I crazy?

RFH REFUSES TO REPENT

The greatest thing about my snobbishness is that I’ve always been really real! And my modesty has always overwhelmed almost everyone! And if you thought it was time for me to make personal statements, your wish has been granted. And wherever I’ve been, and whatever I’ve done, has always, in my mind at least, been for the hopeful good of mankind.

But chaos usually follows one wherever one goes, and in whatever one does. Still, in…

Agriculture in Kashmir

The Geo-agroclimatic  diversity of the  Kashmir offers vast potential for cultivating various kinds and varieties of fruits throughout its length and breadth. The state of Kashmir has four distinct Agro Climatic Zones i.e. Sub-tropical, Intermediate  (Sub-temperate), Temperate and Cold Arid Zone. Such an orientation of fruit growing to this varied type of climate formed the corner stone of strategy for development of Horticulture in the state of Kashmir.
