Granny Cures

I often wonder how many of us would be here today if we had been born in the 19th century.  I, for one, would not have been so fortunate.  I had a rough start:  I contracted pneumonia at four weeks old and had to be placed under an oxygen tent.  I doubt I could have survived a bout with such a serious illness with no antibiotics.  In addition to that, I had to give birth by C-section.  I know that my daughter would not have survived a natural birth in the 1800's, and…

Maiden Voyage

I am not a blogger, but it is important to market what I enjoy....writing fiction!

I'm a Middle School United States History teacher, having taught since 1991.  My hobbies include traveling, antiques, music, Civil War reenacting/speaking to events as Mrs. Stonewall Jackson.

My loves are my hubby, children, and precious grandchildren.  To them, I am Mammy. :)

The books I have written to date are Lost Letters: A Civil War Love Story, Willow, and Cries in the Night.…

Talking About Curses and The Evil Eye

My life has definitely been blessed, but there are days when nothing seems to go right. Like a superstitious peasant woman out of the Middle Ages, I start counting since, as we all know, bad things come in threes. I twist an…

MANscapes by Manuela Cardiga

MANscapes is a powerful parable of hope and renewal, a story of one woman's discovery of herself and her journey into love.

MANscapes by Manuela Cardiga

" All women - from the most exquisite beauty to the plainest drab - want to believe in the Cinderella myth. Even the harsh-faced and sour-hearted, somewhere deep in their night-time struggles with their bitterest reality, dare to dream some Prince could still see past the dense veil of unkind nature and time, to the… Continue

Publishing Virgin

Publishing a novel for the first time has been exciting and scary for me. It generates pride while at the same time it spits out gobs of self-doubt. When friends pull out pictures of their kids, I pull out a copy of my latest book promotion. Someone says, “You wrote a book! How cool!” but the minute I come down off the accolade high, I wonder if a little plastic surgery is in order to fix that nose of mine. It sure does show up big on my book’s author photo.

Hell’s bells!…

New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolution pic I entitled this post 'New Year's Resolutions' for a simple reason: I don't make any. I used to but made progress on them for only about a week or so, then fell back into old habits. You know, the old standards: more exercise, watch the diet, quit smoking. Whoops, well, I can't claim I ever made a resolution to quit smoking since I never started.

I've been thinking about the end of…

Discipline

Discipline I chose this accompanying picture specifically because I don't like pushups. Never have. I don't have the strength to do many pushups because of my right arm.

For those who aren't familiar with my story, let me share. When I was a baby I fell out of bed. I was ill and the infection settled in my ankle and elbow. The ER nurse told my parents that I was crying just to get attention. (Dad, to this…

ROAD EXCURSIONS:  THE DEMISE OF KENNY, AND THE DILEMMAS OF LAUREN

                                                   Written By: Rashon Leyf

Well, it’s happened. A very sad, but not unexpected event has recently occurred in our city. Kenny Asher, while intoxicated, has driven his girlfriend’s (Lauren Havess) antique car off a north side embankment, and has either died from injuries sustained during the car’s subsequent descent into…

Chapter 7

                                                            A TRIBUTE TO RALPH

                                                   Written By: Rashon Leyf

It’s time for me to write about my greatest friend (except of course for my girlfriend

Amber). His name is Ralph Hawk, and there are so many things I could rightfully say about him. Yet, probably the best tribute I can pay him, is to simply say that he’s done (and…
