Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
Does anyone else suffer that feeling of bereavement when the work is all done and the book(s) have left your safe clutches and gone off to make their own way in the world? I love the preparation for publication: proof-checking, cover choosing and detail sorting, but there's such an empty space left when the 'children' leave home and seem to have nothing to do with you any more. Glory hallelujah, lift a glass/teacup/slice of cake and celebrate that the new edition of Peace on Earth is back in print as of this very morning - the e-book came out last month. It's very slightly different from the first version, but only in minor detail. This is just to say hello and I'm more or less still alive, but partly from ill health, partly from particularly intense stress and partly because I'm still waiting for a piece of news, I've been incommunicado. Actually, no this isn't about dystopic fiction but dystopic fact. I've just had notice today that our benevolent British government (and I voted for them) will be reassessing me as part of their campaign to prove that there is no such thing as illness or disability so forget all those years paying National Insurance just exactly in case you should fall ill.
