Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
Today is the final day of Banned Books Week 2012.
This celebration should have the support of every writer and reader and we should keep its message in mind throughout the year. Particularly in a time when libraries across the nation are closing because of lack of funding and schools, libraries, bookstores and, yes, publishers are being assailed with bans and challenges to our freedom to read.

One of the key ingredients of advice to aspiring writers is to read.
The neophyte might then ask, what am I to read? Does it mean how-to books? Books written by the advisor? What?
My personal feeling is a writer should read the types of books he or she wishes to write. Most would-be writers are already readers. Inspired by the books they read for pleasure or edification, they strive to emulate, feeding both an innate need and a desire to share their thoughts…

My grandson Ethan doesn't understand how I survived a childhood without television. He thinks I was really deprived because we didn’t have TV until I was in high school.
