We've begun writing. Just came up with this scene to open the book.. What do you think?
It was not their fault, really. Well, mostly not. Matthew Butler, Tommy Cooper, and the little dog Jack emerged from Mobile Bay like Swamp Thing II, their powder blue tuxedos dripping with mud and rotted weeds. On the expansive lawn in front of them sat three hundred fifty close friends and relatives, dressed in their Sunday best. A murmur ran through the crowd. The bride, an attractive thirtyish woman with blondish brown hair and an enormous smile was just walking down the aisle. She stopped where she stood, her mouth dropping open. Matthew’s father looked at his bride standing in the aisle and it dawned on him that all attention had shifted to the bay behind him. He turned slowly to see his only son sheepishly approaching, accompanied by his son’s reprobate friend, and what seemed to be a small, moving mud puddle with a furiously wagging tail.
“You always did go for the dramatic entrance,” the groom spoke wryly. Turning to his bride, he said “Pookie, I’d like you to meet my son, Matthew Hazard Butler, with emphasis on the Hazard.”
