Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

Just checking in with my first entry - it's good to know that there's a support system out here for people working in what is often a pretty lonely environment.  There are two really brilliant moments in writing - the day the book is commissioned or accepted and the day it comes out, most of the rest is pretty hard going.  There is nothing, however, quite like the feeling of buzz (and pressure) as you are involved in the creation, with ideas sparking and threads to pull and conclusions to reach.  When you are working on a factual book that is - for me - a physical network of books and papers on the floor with me and the occasional cat in the middle keeping tabs on each reference point.  When you're writing fiction you have to keep that floor in your head and that's been a challenge in the past few years as I have had long-term health problems - not the best way to maintain creativity.  I'm working on getting the Delos series back out there, with the new volume ready to roll (check out my website, janemccaa.co.uk, for a taster) and have been hatching another idea .  .  .  Enough for today as I have a sale of my jewellery and knitted accessories tomorrow and that's going to take all my current energy.  I'm aiming for new outlets for that creativity as well, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
