Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
To set up a fb page:
Go to any fan page and click the button at the top right that says Create a Page. (If you don’t have any pages you “like”, then use mine www.facebook.com/livinglearninglovinglife.
On the Category page, select Artist, Band or Public Figure then select Author from the drop-down menu. If you want to make a page for your book instead, choose Entertainment, then Book from the drop-down menu. As someone who has several fan pages for different purposes, let me suggest just making an Author page, rather a page for each book. It’ll help with branding in the long run, and it’ll be MUCH easier to maintain one page than several.
Put the name of your Page in the box under the menu. Check the little box that says you agree to the TOS no one ever reads, then click the blue button. (I’ve already clicked it and I can’t remember what it said. I’m certain you can figure it out.)
After that, fb will walk you through uploading a picture and the information for your Page.
To put a fb link/widget on your main website:
Go to Edit Page. Select Use Social Plugins. I use the Like Box, but there are several options there.
The widget settings page will open up. Mine always has the Facebook Platform page there for some reason. If your’s does that, just put your page’s URL in the space instead and the other fields will populate to your info. (Once you get 25 fans, you can customize your URL so you don’t have a long string of numbers there.)
Click Get Code. There are several different options for code, and I can’t tell you which one to choose. You may just have to experiment and see which one works on your website.
Then just go place the code where you want it on your site. If you’re using Blogger, go to Design, New Gadget, HTML, then enter the code. It’ll show up on your sidebar, and you can use the Design page to move it up or down to where you want it. WP probably has something similar. I haven’t used web-based WP in a long time, and I’ve never used the self-hosted version, so I can’t give exact help for those.
