Shutter Island
Overall rating: Holy wow!
Okay there’s book by Denis Lehane. I never heard of the author and am not a big fan of scary tales. Few have actually been good. Yet after seeing a trailer for the shutter Island movie, I got kind of curious, so I had to check it out.
Shutter Island is a tale about a bizarre investigation on a island mean t for the insane. Federal Marshalls Teddy Danielle’s and Chuck Aule arrive there to investigate a missing patient case. When they arrive there, they find this patient Rachel Solando seem to of disappear into thin air. There’s no sign of escape, and she’s no where on the island. So unless she can teleport there’s was no way she escape without help.
Teddy and Chuck are suspicious of this. The doctors are sending them in circles. The patients are making no sense which is expected. As they investigate, it seems the entire atmosphere changes . It switched back and forth having you guess what is the real reality.
But to explain the book fully. I have to explain Teddy Daniels. He’s a ex soldier and he lost his wife in a fire. He’s constantly mourning through out the book. He can’t go a minute without wishing his wife was there. He has migraines from stress. Some are so bad that he will fall to floor screaming. So not only he’s on this island, he believes the man named Laddis, the arson who kill his wife is on the island. So he is also driven by revenge.
As he investigates this island, he finds more and more things that don’t add up. He finds out about brain surgeries, possible experimentation on patients and then ultimately that maybe people on this island were actually driven crazy. They might of never been insane after all. And as this spirals faster and faster out of control he begins to wonder if they want to do the same thing too him.
Through out the book you question everyone. The doctors may be crazy them selves. The patients might be sane people being experimented on? Chuck even seems suspicious at once. And as Teddy looses his self, you even find you self question him? This is good thrill. It has one hell of a ending that makes you go “Holy Wow! I didn’t see that coming,” and this book really does live up to the hype. I don’t have anything bad to say about it.
So over all I recommend it anyone. Even if you don’t like the ending, you have to love the twists and turns that book takes you one.
4 smoothies out of four.
