Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
Q1: Thanks for participating in our Authors.com Spotlight Interview series Lisa! Please introduce yourself and your book to help our readers get to know you.
A: I am Lisa Day. I hail from the southern part of the USA. and have begun to write under that name for Rebel Ink Press.
Before discovering writing I ran an insurance office. So my days were filled with people and phone calls. Now all is quiet as I hide in my room and hit little letters on a board all day.
My book The Stepbrothers is a softer side of the erotic books that I have written in the past under another pen name.
Q2: Please explain how you came to be a writer, what inspired you to write your book(s) and how long it took.
A:Like many people today I found my caught in the “you are now unemployed” crunch. After coming to terms with it, I pulled out my box of all time favorite paperback books and re-read every one. However, this time I felt emotionally let done. How many times do you hear I could write a better book than that. Well, I said it and I now had the time to try it.
Surprise, no it is not as easy as it sounds. It is definitely more than putting words on paper or on a screen. Hours and hours each and every day was spent learning what I didn't know. Then day and days of trying to learn what I discovered I didn't know...But I was on a mission to learn as much as possible. It took me from May to October to have a publisher say yes. But I lived day and night on the computer..12 to 16 hours a day.
Q3: What did you enjoy most about creating this book?
A.I found this book had an attitude. No matter how hard I tried to make it fit the genre I had been writing in--this story refused. It wanted to be gentler kind of story.
Q4: What facets of your life, both personal and professional, are woven into your book, if any?
A.Hmmm. I had to think on this one. My heroine chooses to find ways to accept the things that happen to her without being bitter or revengeful.
Q5. How did you get published?
A.I had to find a new publisher for this genre so I hit the internet and a couple of writer friends made suggestions. The very first publisher I submitted The Stepbrothers to accepted it. Yeah! Phew!
Q6: Did you have any surprises or hiccups along the way during the book writing and/or publishing process?
A. I usually don't have any issues during the writing stage. And if you pick your publisher wisely you can eliminate a lot of the usual issues some writers have.
Q7: What one thing did you wish you'd known before you started this project?
A. If the project is writing as a whole. Then the time involved in getting your book out there so people will know it's even there. The marketing!!
Q8: You're a fly on the wall when readers are discussing your book. What would you hopeto hear them say about it?
A. “Oh, listen to this”...”Do you believe this-what fun”... “Oh, no I didn't see that coming”.
Q9: Tell us one thing about you that most people don't know or would surprise them.
A. My age... and I ain't telling.
Q10: What single piece of advice would you give new authors?
A. There is no greater advice than the boring but true: write, write, write, then write some more.
Q11: Share a short summary of a typical day in your life with us please.
A.BORING..Breakfast for hubby and self. Then I head for the 'computer room' and when I need a break I go clean something and when sick of that back to the 'room.' Warned you, boring!
Q12: Describe where you do most of your writing. What would I see if I was sitting beside you?
A.I write sitting at a computer desk half cluttered with papers. Some personal like.. bills..grrr and others are notes for my writing. Character lists or how to do lists.
Q13: What's your motto or favorite quote you like to live by?
Q14: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us in closing such as your website, an imminent book launch or what you're working on presently?
A.Here's my web site http://lisaday.weebly.com/ and here is my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Lisa-Day-Author-Page/249701868374938 .Please stop by both and say hi.
