Stephen King’s The Road Virus Heads North
Overall Rating: Good, quick read, if you like horror
I have pretty stated in my earlier hubs that I’m not that much of a horror fan. But will always give it a shot. This time, it’s The Road Virus Heads North by Stephen King.
The Road Virus Heads North is not truly a novel and is only a short story about fifty pages long. It can be found online and is in his short stored collections, I found it in everything’s Eventual.
The story focused on the character of Robert Kinnell who is a horror author. He sops at a yard sale and buys a gruesome painting that he seems to oddly be attracted to, The woman tells him about the fate if the painter and how he went insane and destroyed nearly all of his paintings before he died. This may have been warning enough for him not buy it, but he does so any ways.
The story chronicles him as he heads up north toward his home, and as he comes to the conclusion that his new painting is cursed. But this story is not much of a thriller and is not even scary. It is mostly just suspense and the story focuses on him questioning his self a lot,
The story drags in the middle wit way too much suspense that it actually becomes boring for a while until the end. But the end is great, I will say the ending is creepy and I loved it, How it ended in cliff hanger leaving your mind’s imagination to finish it. Also there were a couple bits that seemed so un realistic that I was like, oh come on! But it’s Stephen King. He strays from reality a lot, so I won’t complain any more about it. I come to expect it from this author.
So over all it’s good quick read. Not the greatest, but the sort of read that you can appreciate.
Rating: 2 ½ Smoothies out of four
