Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers

I read a lot of British authors, does that count? By far my favorite is Terry Pratchett, I can read his books again and again. Many other Brits like Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie, Martha Grimes, and the precious old stories by Elizabeth Goudge have delighted me over the years. Oh, and Jonathan Gash.
I have enjoyed some Mexican authors. I enjoy their bizarre and whimsical view of death, life, fate, etc. It's been awhile and I don't remember their names.
I like authors who give a strong sense of place, therefore I read a lot of authors who are local to me: Tony Hillerman, Jake Page, and Stewart Woods for instance. I grew up in the desert southwest.
I've never thought about whether I would be more or less likely to read a foreign writer. I wouldn't seek them out, unless I planned to visit their part of the world. But that's something I've only dreamed about so far. I do think that's a good way to get to know a place. With that in mind, do you know any good authors from the Mobile, Alabama area? That's the next place I'm going to write about.

Sally, were you looking for Alabama authors that are famous or just authors in general? There's an Alabama Authors website and they are romance fiction writers that were born, raised and/or living in Alabama. Each name on the Authors page links to their individual websites.

Kay, on foreign authors: I'd read a translation, sure. The author's country of origin doesn't matter to me. All I want is a good book. :) I enjoy Paulo Coelho, author of The Alchemist and many more. He's Brazilian I believe.
