Who agrees with me that a book is almost completely ruined when it is turned into a movie? Take the Harry Potter's for example. Has anyone else read them?

I completely agree any book that has been turned into a movie loses so much in the detail, Harry Potter books included. The imagery that the mind can picture cannot be captured on the screen.
Nice to meet you Callie! :) I haven't read the Harry Potter books but my husband loves them.

A glaring example of a good book that was turned into a terrible movie is Needful Things by Stephen King. I had high hopes it would be great too! What a disappointment. I suppose like everything else there are exceptions though where the movie's better than the book. Jurassic Park springs to mind.
I've read a book called Inkheart adn was so excited when it was a movie, and nearly cried when it was over not because it was sad (which it totally wasn't) but because script writers are evil people.

What was wrong with it, Callie? Did they leave out chunks of the plot or something? It's maddening when you're let down like that.
I agree completely. There's been a few good books that I've read over the years that I've recently seen the movie to and was slightly disappointed in the movie. The most recent book turned into a movie that I've seen was Twilight, and I'm a fan of the Twilight books, so when I watched the movie I was so annoyed at how much it ruined the book, at least for me. I spent the entire time in the theater complaining to the random guy sitting next to me about how much I wasn't enjoying the movie until his girlfriend told me to shut up, lol.
I haven't seen the newest Harry Potter yet, don't know when I will, but I can agree that the books are always better.

I hated the Twilight movie which I saw by chance so I'll not be reading the books. It was so cheesy and slow! I think the effect they were going for was atmospheric. It didn't work. What a dreadful, dreadful movie.

Stephen King's unimpressed by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer. He said recently and I quote "Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."
Yeah, they did. A character named Resa, (TeResa) lost her voice, and didn't get her voice back until the SECOND book. AND SHE GOT IT BACK IN THE FIRST MOVIE! And the version they made had toto in it, but not in the book. Movie script writers are an evil breed. FACT!!!

Good grief, they hacked it apart by the sounds of it! No wonder you were so disappointed. I mean I know cuts do need to be made to fit in with time and budget restrictions but even so... :(

I can agree with you there, lol. It wasn't the best series I've read to date, but because I had read the books before seeing the movie I had an idea in my head of what I wanted to see and when the movie was completely different I was mad. My friend's are all freaking out about the New Moon movie in November and I'm not even going to bother seeing it.

If the book is completely different like you say I might give it a read after all then. It couldn't be much worse, could it? ;)

Is the New Moon movie a sequel to the Twilight one or different?

Sandra, I agree. I don't think any movie producer can match what our minds visualize. Good point. Are you a Harry Potter fan yourself?

New Moon is the second book of the series. Eclipse, which they've begun filming is the third book and then Breaking Dawn. They're hoping on getting them all done relatively close to one another while the actors are still young, gives the effect that they don't age that much throughout the series, lol.
