Authors, Writers, Publishers, and Book Readers
As a published non-fiction author, people have "pidgeon-holed" me into a particular style and genre; which is okay. However, I am also a very multi-faceted individual who has a huge imagination, and I wanted to try my hand at something very different than what people would expect. Sticking with one type of writing is okay and "to each his own", but I feel if you're a writer, well, you can write whatever you fancy whenever you decide to. This can be very difficult for some writers to do because their audience expects them to "deliver the goods" like they're used to. But let me ask you this. Do you eat only one kind of food? Watch one television program? Drink only water? I'm sure there are people out there who might, but honestly, that isn't what most people do is it? So why, as a writer, would you stick to one thing? I figure if you love to write, then write what you love. It may be romance, self-help, biographies, kids books; it really doesn't matter. You're a writer....so FLEX THOSE WRITER MUSCLES! It may not be a New York Best Seller or a million book sale, but the point is, is you wrote what you loved. And that is the most rewarding aspect of it all. You put YOU out there. So, I want to encourage you to be all that YOU are as a writer/author, and just change your mind about the norms, because to be honest with you, there aren't norms when it comes to creativity...and just get out there and do it!
